What this means

Important: Actual generation can change with shade, roof direction, panel angle, weather, equipment and installation quality. Use this as a planning check, not as an electrical or structural design.

Which electricity number should I enter?

Look for “Units Consumed” or “kWh” on your electricity bill. Enter the units, not the bill amount in rupees.

If your bill covers two months, divide the units by two before entering a monthly figure. If your use changes a lot through the year, use an average of several recent bills or enter your yearly total.

Why does the calculator ask for my location?

The same size solar system does not generate exactly the same electricity everywhere in India. A listed city uses a built-in city planning reference. If your place is not listed, you can enter it manually and the calculator will use a rounded state-level reference.

Everything is stored inside the calculator, so there is no waiting for an outside solar-data service.

Can I enter my PIN code?

Yes. A partial PIN can help find a listed reference city. A full 6-digit PIN is better. If that PIN is not in the city list but its postal prefix clearly identifies a state or Union Territory, the calculator can use the state-level solar reference.

If the PIN cannot be mapped safely, use the manual location option and choose your state or Union Territory.

Why do I see a range instead of one exact solar size?

The calculator first works out an energy-based requirement. It then shows nearby practical sizes so you can see how much a slightly smaller or larger system may generate.

Actual systems may have slightly different capacities because panel wattages and layouts are not all the same.

What if my city or PIN is not listed?

Use the manual location option and enter your town or village, then choose your state or Union Territory. The calculator will use a rounded state-level solar planning reference.

If a full PIN can be safely mapped to a state from its postal prefix, the calculator can use that state reference automatically. It does not pretend that a PIN prefix identifies your exact rooftop.

How should I enter roof area?

Enter only usable shadow-free roof space. Leave out water tanks, staircases, permanent shade and areas where panels cannot practically be installed.

The roof result is only a planning check. Final capacity depends on actual panel dimensions, roof shape, access space and shading.

What does the vendor quote check do?

It compares the vendor's proposed solar size with the size suggested by your electricity use. If the vendor gives an annual generation figure, it also compares that figure with the calculator's location-based reference.

A difference does not automatically mean the vendor is wrong. Ask what assumptions were used for future electricity use, shade, roof direction and expected system performance.

What does the price per kW tell me?

It simply divides the vendor's total quoted price by the proposed solar size. This makes two quotations easier to compare.

It is not a market-price judgement. Panel brand, inverter, mounting structure, civil work, cable length and the work included in the quotation can all change the final price.

Why do I enter subsidy or incentive myself?

A subsidy changes what you may pay. It does not change how much solar your home needs.

That is why the incentive field is blank by default. Enter an amount only if you know what may apply to your case.

What is not included?

This tool does not size batteries, design the electrical system, check structural loads, select an inverter, calculate cable sizes or approve grid connection.

It also does not calculate long-term payback. Those are separate questions and should not be mixed into a simple solar-size estimate.

Important to remember

The result is an approximate energy estimate. Actual generation can change with the site, shade, roof direction, panel angle, weather, equipment and installation quality.

You do not need to enter your name, phone number or email. Only the selected reference location and the numbers needed for the calculation are used.

Remember: This is a practical estimate based on the numbers and assumptions shown in the tool. It does not replace a site-specific engineering or professional assessment.
