About Bharatgogreen

Hello Readers,

I am:

Anupam Srivastava

Owner, Founder & Editor of bharatgogreen.com

An avid Chemical Engineer experienced in various energy-intensive sectors ranging from Oil exploration, Gas Processing, Refineries & petrochemicals to Fertilizers.

I worked with many prestigious companies like Kribhco Fertilizers, Reliance Industries, British Gas, Shell, and Kuwait National Petroleum Corporation.

I am currently involved in managing Plant Operations, Health, Safety, Environment, and various energy conservation projects.

My Thoughts on Non-Renewable Energy Sources (Like Petroleum)

Oil is a non-renewable source that has percolated into nearly every aspect of our lives, whether we recognize it or not.

Statistics show that in 2010, global crude oil demand was 86.4 million barrels per day, and now, it is expected to increase to approximately 99 million barrels per day.

Being a limited energy source, whose demand is increasing day by day, poses two major problems.

⦁ It will be depleted one day, so, for our energy requirements, we have to rely on renewable sources. So it does make sense that we should start learning to live without it from now onward.

⦁ There are many health, safety & environmental reasons to reduce petroleum consumption.

Health Hazards – Pesticides in food products, Growing level of Nitrates in groundwater from petroleum-based fertilizers, and MTBE leakage from gasoline storage tanks, to name a few.

Safety Hazards – Exposure to toxic chemicals such as hydrogen sulfide formed during the refining process, fire susceptibility, and the world’s growing plastic (a petroleum product) waste crisis.

Environmental hazards – Global climate change from the combustion of petroleum products, oil spills destroying natural habitats, destruction of rain forests owing to excessive Oil drilling.

How This Idea Has Taken a Shape

In energy-intensive sectors such as oil and gas, there is a standard called ISO-14001, whose prime requirement is to assess all aspects of the company’s production and their respective environmental impacts.

There is also a mandatory requirement for the Environmental Management System (EMS), which must include an Emergency Response Plan (ERP).

For example, what to do in case of huge oil spillage into the sea.

In short, I can say that idea of ‘BharatGoGreen’ has been derived from EMS owing to my continual efforts in this field.

India has a great renewable energy source whose potential is yet to be harnessed, and from here, ‘Bharat’ comes into the picture.

Over time I started to think why most of us didn’t know the importance and benefits of being Eco-friendly (even I was also on the same page a few years ago).

I did some root cause analysis (RCA) and concluded that following are the main causes that are hindering us from being going green completely.

⦁ Lack of information (most important cause)

⦁ Lack of awareness

⦁ Lack of motivation

⦁ Not willing to leave the comfort zone

I think this idea can influence industries and every human being if they are well informed and educated.

Over the years, I have contributed a lot in the field of energy conservation for industries, but now the time has come to extend this contribution to our society.

To contribute to this cause, I decided to become Eco-friendly over time and educate others through this blog so that they would hopefully join this conservation effort.

If all of us do their part well and the chain continues, then I can say, together, we can build a sustainable future.
